Oopsie! Didn't write for some days now. But hey! ..it happens I'll still keep you up to date! Other than eating Chipotle almost daily and practicing like a beast... what's new? There's occasional pain in my left ear, one time I felt it also in the right ear. But with every passing day this pain pops up less and nothing an ibuprofen can't fix, even though I try to stay away from it as long as I can push through. Another interesting thing... I'm getting used to chewing a bit more and the more I "work it", I kinda get numb in my lower lip. My teeth are also a bit "sore", I guess it's from the bands and they're still adjusting and changing positions. It's not so comfy to bite anything mildly firm.
I'm learning what's easy for me to eat. Thomas was craving Chik-fil-a the other day... that's a big no no. I'm not joking, I think I was at least half an hour eating one chicken sandwich. Too much crunchy stuff and not very good plastic knife and fork. But steaks are easy! And everything with rice. Today I had Panera Bread, tomato soup and Chicken Frontega something... Then for dinner we were in a relaxed mood so we got pizza, and I my friends ate 4 small pieces! Wooooowwww it took long! hahaha but it was good! I'm getting more normal in my eating habits, it's nice to not have to eat soup or smoothie for every meal. Going up!

Again, started the day with oatmeal with apples, this time added peaches also. Then 2 sunny side up eggs.
Went to practice. Usually you park the car and get a ride to the back side practice area, if that's where you practice. But we walked back there just to get a bit exercise for me. It's not that much, maybe equivalent of 2 holes. We always bring drinks to practice. For example: A shake with peanut-butter and bananas, some juice smoothie, Gatorade. I think yesterday being such a long practice affected me today. I was quickly tired and my legs shaking doing my putting and bunker drills. But I still had a good practice, got all my work done. Then when we called it a day it actually started raining a bit, just a mist. So then we walked back to the car again. So I got a walk in of maybe 5 holes today total ;) We went to Chipotle for lunch! Mmmmmm it was so good. But I'm not comfortable with chewing yet. It's like I don't know how to anymore, funny feeling! Something to do with the bands and not enough power. I don't have to stab the chicken anymore though. I just cut it in small pieces. When we got "home" it started pouring. So really cozy to be inside. I do some exercises now and then soon we make my faaaavorite dinner: White sauce pasta. I like it when Thomas makes it... It doesn't taste the same when I try to make it. Thicker than usual oatmeal and eggs for breakfast- Very nice!
Then I worked really hard at the golf course. We practiced for 3,5 hours, which is very long for me now, still working my way up. Then we went to Texas Roadhouse and got some steak! It's good to eat steak and mashed potatoes because I don't have to chew it really. Just order medium rare and cut it small enough. After eating I wasn't feeling so good. I had been quite active with my jaw for breakfast and then again for late lunch. I got massive pain in my left ear and on the left lower jaw. I took some ibuprofen when we got back and the pain was mostly gone in maybe 1 hour. When I was fine again I did some exercises and stretched. At night I was really tired after a busy day, and decided to eat my "favorite"... SOUP! I just can't get enough of it ;) Blahhhh... I did this because of what I felt earlier and letting my jaw rest a little. When I'm done with this thing here I probably won't eat soups for years! The airplane ride went well. Sometimes felt pressure on my head but nothing to complain about. But something else not ideal: I woke up with a sore throat and not feeling so great. First time I get "sick" since the surgery. It wasn't bad enough that I didn't go practice, I pushed through! Went for 2 hours to chip, putt and pitch, but that was the limit. It was really nice to be outside practicing after all the indoor practice in Iceland. OMG then I had my faaaavorite!!! I ate Chipotle for dinner. Just rice, chicken, sour cream, cheese and guacamole - all the soft stuff that doesn't stick too much in the teeth. It was sooooo good! I needed a special technique, "stabbing" the chicken with a knife before to make it softer and not having to chew it. This takes quite some time I tell you. But hey! It means you can basically eat whatever you want ;) Tomorrow I get to chew for the first time though! It's then been 4 weeks. Time flies. I get to take out one of the bands then, and only have two bands except when I'm sleeping I'll add the third band. This means I'll be able to speak a little bit more normal! Woohoo! People probably think I'm so weird when I talk with closed teeth. Until next time! Ciao
I have been extremely busy the last days so I didn’t write on the blog. I’ll tell you something: I’m never busier than when I’m in Iceland. AND I’m never ever busier than the last days of my Iceland trips. Because Icelanders are really chill people and tend to leave things last minute. This leaves me feeling like I finally get a break and a breather when I sit on the airplane. But don’t get me wrong, most of the things I’m doing are really fun. But it’s just everything at once that is exhausting.
This is what been up:
Today I was at the airport with limited options, only one place sold soup. But it had a lot of stuff in it, so I cheated a little bit. I opened my mouth with the bands. Which is okay since they’re not as tight anymore. Then I cheated again and ate small hamburgers on the plane. It takes forever though to eat… I was stabbing the tiny piece of burger with my knife to make it soft like I had chewed it already. I tell you: It’s not easy being hungry and eating slow-mo. Being on a plane for almost 8 hours also forces you to take some new action. I got myself 3 Joe & the Juice drinks to-go on the plane. But I’m aaaalways hungry. I promise to write another blog tomorrow from sunny Orlando. I took one of those dentist mirrors and had a look at my teeth. Not looking so great... I mean I haven't been able to brush my teeth like normally for some weeks now. For the first two weeks I had the bands and wasn't supposed to take them out so was only able to brush the outsides of the teeth. It's the inside that's looking pretty bad. I have greyish and dark spots in the areas where I can't easily get to with the toothbrush. And also some spots where the food gets through. Not fun... made me sad and a bit scared for my teeth. But I'm going to really try to attack those spots in the next days!!!
My energy levels are rising. I was barely home all day today. Had some meetings, then I met with my physio and had a bit longer practice than yesterday. Did some putting. Went and got another ice-cream with yet another friend! I just stepped on the scale to check my weight. It's getting pretty steady! It's the fourth time I've hit exactly: 59,1kg. Gooooood girl! Now I gotta go sleep for another busy day tomorrow! I'm meeting my dentist for the first time since before the surgery. Then I pick up Thoooooomas at the airport!!! Today I practiced for the first time since the surgery. It was awesome! I just did some putting. It's impressive how I still got the touch. But I got a little dizzy in the beginning because I'm not used to having my head leaning over the ball. That went away quickly. I told my friend to warn her: "If I faint, it will be alright!" but half joking of course. I always get very hot when I feel uncomfortable. My body goes in some "MAYDAY MAYDAY"-mode.
I would have taken a break anyways from golf in December, after a long season it's important to also take some time off. But now I'm ready to start again! And I feel ready physically after the surgery too. Then we got some ice cream after practice. We don't understand how people finish those portions... Wow! I'm also becoming a champ at taking out the bands and putting them back in! Practice makes perfect. In a week I'll do it blindfold (almost) ;) I can't really open my mouth that far. I don't know if that's normal... if it takes some training. I should maybe write my doctor tomorrow and ask him, beacuse I don't meet him for another 3 days then. It also hurts a bit when I open it, mainly on the right side. Now it's time for my reward after a busy busy day: Elementary Yesterday was New Years Eve. I forgot to write and I don't feel like writing two seperate blogs... hihi My favorite jaw/teeth related thing that happened yesterday was: Everybody was having snacks and candy, while I couldn't. But then someone brought out a candy that I really like: filled licorice. Ohhhhh I wanted it so bad, so what did I do! I opened my mouth a bit with the bands still on (just the same as when I yawn basically) and squeeeeeezed a piece of licorice in my mouth and was able to suck on it for a while. Then I remembered that I didn't take out the bands yet that day, perfect opportunity to eat some more licorice, so I did. My brother and family spent the night at our house, so we hung out and watched movies until 4 o'clock. The first day of the new year! My other brother came over and we all had lunch together. Then we attacked the puzzle that has been over us all Christmas. My dad says I can't leave Iceland until it's finished so to "help me" we should finish it. There was a little puzzle accident by a little person the night before, but the damage was quickly fixed! Then we went outside, made a coolio snowman and took a short walk. I made sure not to get my face too cold. My mom is really taking good care of me. I sometimes feel bad she's doing so much. But to be honest, I would forget to eat if she wasn't helping me. She mixed icecream with kiwii for me but then my tounge and gums felt weird (I sometimes get that when I eat too much kiwii or strawberries) so then she mixed me another ice cream. Tonight after eating ice cream I thought it would be nice to try to brush my teeth fully. So I took out the bands and did what I could. First when I take off the bands it kinda hurts to open my mouth, but after a few minutes it's not as bad anymore. It's probably just a bit stiff in the beginning, because I'm not moving it like I normally would. I wrote down some goals for 2017. Life, golf, physically, and so on. It's going to be a great year! I wish you all the best in the year 2017!!! Today I went to my physio for the first time since the surgery. We did some exercises, mainly legs and working on my posture. I also got homework, about 20 mins a day exercises and stretches.
Then at dinner my soup was a bit thick. I suddenly remembered that my doctor said I should take out the bands for 10-15 mins a day now to start using the muscles again. So I decided to take out the bands and eat this thick soup like that. It was okay, still struggling a bit with the soup and slowly opening my mouth. It didn't really hurt but it also wasn't 100% without pain opening the mouth. So I was like "yupp that's enough for today". Took a good 10 minutes to put the bands back in because I didn't really remember where they were and I didn't understand the pictures I took of the positions. But after looking well at the pictures I took (my doctor told me to take pictures of the bands before taking them out so I could place them in the same spots again), it worked. And I'm about 70% sure they're in the right spot, maybe one band is a bit crooked but that's a B+ still. I'm pretty sure it's not the end of the world... or I'm 100% sure it's not the end of the world, but I'm pretty sure it's not too bad for my recovery even if it's not exactly the same. The doctor was struggling putting the bands in once when my face was really swollen so he then adjusted to that and put the bands in differently. What else can I tell you.... My weight fluctuates a lot. Sometimes I maybe don't eat enough. I definitely didn't eat enough yesterday so it was 57kg this morning and now at night it's 59kg. I'm supposed to observe it and I'm doing what I can to get back to 60kg at least. Right now I'm about to eat my second ice cream portion of the day, luxury life! Icey is out! I woke up pretty early for my time (I'm not able to fall asleep very early still) to go see the doctor. First thing, he examined a bit and told me everything looks fine! Of course... I was just imagining things. Then he took my stitches out. That was awesome, but you know what! I found one tonight when I was brushing my teeth, he must have forgotten or not seen it. Oopsie, but that's okay!
Today was another busy day. I had to take care of organizing next year and then there was Sportsman of the year in Iceland. This year has been the craziest year in sports. The soccer national team was amazing and so much fun to follow. The swimmer girl did great at the Olympics which was also awesome to follow. And then I was in third place of the vote. I wasn't going to go to the ceremony, because it's really long, tiring for me, and I didn't expect to get any food for the whole time, and last but not least I wasn't really excited about having people take pictures of me looking like a hamster because I'm still swollen from the surgery. But they convinced me to go and it was good! It was fun! I'm really embarrassed though now that I see the pictures afterwards, I couldn't really smile normally, but hopefully noooooobody even noticed ;) I got special treatment though. They made a soup only for me! That was really nice. I couldn't eat much of it, I'm super slow of course and because there was so much going on. When I had eaten one third of the soup I was brought to the makeup room because I would have to be on the stage. That was it for my soup, but I brought a snack, Joe & the Juice and I drank a coke, so it was fine. Now I'm really sleepy and I have to stop. I'm yawning so much and I don't like yawning with the bands. Goooood night! Lot's of love! |
