My Jaw Surgery
I had an underbite and therefore had a double jaw surgery: Le fort and Midpalatal split.
What is that? I can't explain in very technical terms but...
The way the surgeon explained it to me: He moves my upper jaw forward and also adjusts my lower jaw because it wasn't straight. But the main surgery is on the upper jaw. A surgery on the lower jaw is more complex because of all the nerves that lie there. So it was good we could do it on my upper jaw mostly.
There have been some improvements on this surgery in the past and one of the great things nowadays is this very special knife. This knife only cuts the bone, and not the tissue.
The surgery took about 2,5-3 hours. He cuts my bone all the way from under my nose and brings out that part with my upper teeth, avoiding the nerves as much as possible.
Now I have titanium plates by my nose and some screws in my jaw. As you can see on the pictures.
My doctor is a Champ: Dr. Odont. Guðmundur Ásgeir Björnsson. I think he's modest but I'm pretty sure he's one of the best! He's a member of the Norwegian, Nordic and International organizations of jaw surgeons and very active in re-education. He doesn't always explain things detailed to me, unless I ask. But that's also good, then I'm not getting unesseccarily nervous.
Why do I say I think he's one of the best? Because the blogs I've been looking through, the recovery time is so much longer, the face is bruised, they lose feeling in their face for a long time and the people had to stay in the hospital for 2 days. In my case I got to go home the same day, or right after the anesthesia was done messing with my head. I didn't have any bruises, was numb for 2 days and I'll be ready to do normal stuff again in two weeks, being careful of course. This is exactly why I wanted to make this blog, because I didn't fully relate to the other blogs and I wanna help those that feel the same.

Here I will upload some pictures later to show the before and after story.
